College Athletes should be paid

CCSU-football-NEC-champs-2017-1510438715 College athletes generate a lot of money towards the university or the college that they are playing at.  College athletes are very beneficial to colleges. They provide entertainment for students and the general public.

They also produce revenue for the colleges or the universities at which they play for. For example, last year  The university of Alabama’s football program has brought in up to over 100 million dollars alone in just playing football games. This gives a lot of money to the school which will benefit it in many different ways.

This will help the universities grow and expand throughout their area. This will also help them bring more students looking for opportunities in their fields of study to have a wide variety choices. Professors, coaching staffs, and many other people looking for job opportunites will, in most choices will always pick the bigger school because of the opportunities that is being presenting at the time.

WHY STUDENT ATHLETES SHOULD GET PAID

College athletes should get paid not only because they generate a lot of income for their universities but because they risk their bodies each and everyday while performing their task. Not all college athletes have insurance. They should get money is that it can help them with their medical bills.

According to statistics 67% of a group of former Division 1 athletes who sustained a major injury and 50% reported chronic injuries, a finding that was 2.5 times higher than that seen in non- athletes. While the main focus of the study was primarily in former football players, it also contained other athletes from diving, baseball and soccer.

There has been a big focus about serious health problems experienced by former professional football players. But these injuries aren’t just a football problem, or just getting an concussion. They are a quality of an life issue.

Since the former collegiate athletes couldn’t exercise anymore due to career ending injures or injuries that didn’t make them play the same. They had to stop exercising, and because they had to stop exercising they had an increased risk of cardiovascular disease compared to students that were not very active in college but picked up exercise later in life.

Playing a collegiate sport especially at the Division 1 level is like having full time job and not getting paid for the work you’re putting in. You have to lift either before or after class depending on your schedule, do lots of film study to see how you can improve and learn from your mistakes after each practice, and you also watch film to get a better understanding of your opponent.

TIME IS VALUABLE

There are 2-3 hour practices everyday, so there is no way you are going to work during the season. Sports such as football have to attend a summer training camp which is mandatory, so there is no way that you can generate your own income. So its hard for athletes to not have money to fulfill their needs.

D1 collegiate sports are also very time consuming and very demanding to the point where you are going to have to miss class due to competition. This will cause you to fall behind in class and sometimes it is hard to catch up in some cases. This will force you to develop time management skills because if you don’t the student athlete life will be even more of a struggle for some.

Journey to the NFL

footballMy dream job is to play professional football in the NFL. This has been my dream since I was a little kid. I want to be an inspiration for kids from Long Island, NY.

I play college football right now at the Division 1 level and I love everything about it. Everyday I work hard to accomplish my goals of playing in the NFL and I had the confidence and the mindset to do so.

I sacrifice a lot of my time to get extra workouts in, more hours of film, and any little thing so that when I have something bigger to go against it makes it easier. Anything that is not easy to accomplish has to have work put into it. I always tell myself if it was easy, everybody would do it so that is what keeps me going everyday even if I feel tired or weak.

Dreams worth more than money

Grinding is nothing new to me and I grind every single day of my life. This has always been an important part of my life because I know that if you work hard and stay consistent with your goals you can achieve anything in life and I truly believe that.

When I first came to play college football at CCSU it wasn’t easy at all. I remember being on campus and not knowing anyone and it was kind of a new thing for me. The workouts in heat were very intense and still having class after used to kill me haha.

Going into my first college training camp and not knowing what to do and what the plays    were things were getting frustrating at times. I was starting to lose my confidence and I was overthinking a lot of easy things and I was making it harder than it seems.

The Grind will keep us honest

My freshman year I travelled and I was a starter on special teams, getting the ball a little bit and as I was work harder and harder each day everything was flowing into place. I started feeling comfortable and I was starting to play to my full potential.

Getting to the NFL is definitely not an easy task but I know that with God I can accomplish anything and if I keep on working hard towards my dream it will happen. I like to speak things into existence and if I keep doing that things will start falling into place.

My dream is still loading and I will do anything in my power to make it come true. But I know that as a college football player if I compete with myself everyday and I give everything 100% I know that I will have more confidence with my abilities and I will have faith in anything I do.

I sacrifice a lot of fun things now so I know that in a couple of years I can be happy with where I am in life and I can enjoy my dream for the rest of my life. And I can also inspire the youth of NY to never give up on their dreams and that with hard work and consistency you can accomplish anything you want in life.
