My name is Aaron Dawson, I am from Long Island New York. I am currently enrolled into my sophomore year at Central Connecticut State University and I am majoring in Strategic communications.
Growing up I always played football but I was never on a team. I always wanted to play on a team but my parents thought it would be too dangerous.
After years of finally convincing them I finally signed up to play for the East Meadow PAL football team in East meadow, New York.
It was the first time I had ever played on a organized football team and I was not doing good at all. I was frustrating myself and my teammates , always messing up on plays and not knowing the playbook.
I wanted to quit but my dad would not let me so I had to just follow the plan and never give up. I always worked hard and I started playing to my full potential.
My first football game ever I had 4 touchdowns and I knew that I could play this game forever. This game really means the whole world to me.
After my senior season of my high school career I did not have any scholarships to any colleges or universities. I was an All State running back in high school and broke all of my schools football records.
I did not achieve the SAT scores that I needed to have in order to play Division 1 sports, so I had to go to a prep school which was located in upstate New York. I went to school called Milford Academy which was the best prep school for football in the nation.
Milford was probably the hardest time I have ever went through my whole entire life. Everyday was a grind but I knew that if I put the extra work and stayed consistent I know that I would achieve one of my goals of becoming a Division 1 running back.
I had to take an SAT prep class which was a difficult class for me. I worked extremely hard and I accomplished my biggest goal of becoming Division 1 qualified.
After the season I finished at Milford as the #2 rusher on the team. We went 11-0 and defeated navy on Veterans Day to accomplish one of our biggest goals to have a undefeated season.
I had one full scholarship to a D2 school but I was not interested at all. Signing day came around and since I did not want go play D2 football I lost my scholarship.
This was a hard time for me and I was starting to hate everything. I called my Milford coach and told him the mistake that made and he told me that if I come up to workouts for the new upcoming season I will achieve my goal.
I went up to Milford and worked very hard in the workout and had interest from UMass. I was very excited and was hoping to get an offer.
They did not offer me but my Milford coach told me that the head coach from CCSU was very interested in me and wanted me to come visit.
Saturday morning in New Britain, CT I was on campus getting a tour and seeing how CCSU was. I met with the head coach after and he offered me a full scholarship on the spot.
This was the best day of my life. I will never forget the opportunity that was given to me that day.
I currently play for the CCSU blue devils football team which we just currently went undefeated in our conference. People told me I should not go because they were not very good but I know that I had a big opportunity to become a D1 athlete and I would not let it slide.
